SUU Women's Basketball Recruits Bringing Wealth of Success to Cedar City

CEDAR CITY, Utah - June 14 - Southern Utah women's basketball will have seven new players joining the ranks of the Thunderbirds in the fall when the 2010-11 campaign begins.  The group will enter having already achieved a great deal of success in the high school and club ranks, including runs deep into region and state tournaments.

DJ Norman will be bringing an Iowa state title after leading her team to a perfect 26-0 record on the year and an overall record of 72-4 over her three years at Linn-Mar High School.  Norman also earned individual accolades during her senior year, including a McDonald's All-American nomination, first-team all-conference and second-team all-state while also being named to the all-region and all-NE Iowa teams.

Andrea Jones will bring a second state title to Cedar City after leading Dobson High School (Mesa, Ariz.) to the Arizona 5A state championship.  DHS finished the season with a 29-7 record while capturing the championship at the Las Vegas Holiday Classic and advancing to the final four of the Highland Thanksgiving Tournament.  Jones was named to the all-tournament team of both tournaments while also earning all-state and all-region honors.  Her final accolades of the season came in the form of a McDonald's All-American nomination and MVP honors during the Arizona state tournament.

Carli Moreland just missed out on a state title as Legacy High School (Broomfield, Colo.) fell in the state championship game.  However, the season included a bevy of individual honors for the 6-1 post, including all-conference, all-state, all-tournament team and first-team all-region accolades.

Meghan Ringer, Desiree Jackson and Dani Wynn missed out on state titles, but did enjoy a wealth of individual honors.  Ringer's
Campolindo HS (Moraga, Calif.) finished third in league play and second in the West Coast Jamboree and Phoenix Nike Tournament of Champions.  Her individual accolades included an MVP nod at the Hoops for Charity Shootout and first-team all-league honors.

Jackson also earned first-team all-league honors for Vista del Lago High School (Moreno, Calif.) after averaging 15.7 points, 4.8 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.  Her other award of the season came during the Harvard Westlake Tournament, earning all-tournament team honors during the tournament.

Wynn helped the Canyon View Falcons to a third-place finish at state and will make a quick trip down main street with first-team all-region, all-state honorable mention and academic all-state honors when she enrolls at SUU in the fall.

Angel Dorn (Lakewood, Calif./Lynwood HS) will bring the total signing class to seven as she was a late addition to the team within the past few weeks.  Dorn averaged a double-double as a senior and will provide even greater depth on the wing for the T-Birds.
