CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah soccer team will travel to Spokane, Washington where they are set to open their regular season campaign against the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Thursday, February 11 at Luger Field. The Thunderbirds will end the week being hosted by Dixie State on Sunday, February 14 at Greater Zion Stadium.
Last Time Out
Last Saturday the Thunderbirds dropped the first contest of the season in an exhibition match with the Utah Valley Wolverines 0-4.
Kamryn Farro and Kate Schirmer led the T-Birds in shot attempts combining for five of the seven total.
Jennifer Kovisto played the full 90 minutes of the match as goalkeeper. Kovisto led the match in saves (9).
Scouting Report: Gonzaga Bulldogs
Gonzaga's women's soccer team is coming off of a 2019 season where they finished 4th in WCC play with a record of 5-3-1 and an overall record of 12-6-1, matching a program record for wins.
The Bulldogs got a good start to the season with a 5-1 victory over Dixie State. Scoring in the third minute of the game, Gonzaga attacked fast and effectively throughout the contest. Gonzaga's defense also played a role in their victory by holding Dixie State to 10 shot attempts.
They also dropped a match to Oregon on Sunday, 0-1 as the Ducks scored a last-minute goal.
Head coach Chris Watkins is entering his 4th season with the Bulldogs. In his first three seasons Watkins achieved double-digit win seasons and has an overall record of 23-19-6 at Gonzaga.
Scouting Report: Dixie State Trailblazers
Dixie State's women's soccer team is coming off a productive 2019 season. The Trailblazers accomplished a 8-2-3 record, finishing 3rd in RMAC play and overall record of 12-4-6.
The Trailblazers are entering the 2021 season in a new division and conference for the first time, all with a new head coach Molly Rouse. Dixie State is now a Division I school, playing in the Western Athletic Conference.
The Trailblazers will have a match on Thursday against University of Utah before hosting the T-Birds on Sunday.
