BOZEMAN, Mont– The Southern Utah University men's and women's track team closed out day two of the Big Sky Indoor Championship with multiple thunderbirds setting high marks.
Elizabeth White started the day off strong for the Thunderbirds, winning the title in the long jump with a 19'5.25". White has now won back-to-back long jump titles after she walked away with the win in the 2021 Outdoor Big Sky Championships.
Freshman Ajia Hughes fought her way onto the podium in the high jump. Hughes finished in third overall with a leap of 5'8 ¾", nearly matching her personal best at the Idaho State Snake River Open this year.
Jentry Skidmore also earned a solid finish in the long jump, finishing ninth place overall with a jump of 18' ¼".
In the women's distance medley, Aviry Stratton, Maya Benjamin, Alison Pray, and Madisan DeBos blistered to a second-place finish and new SUU record, with an 11:37.28 converted time.
Raquel Suarez earned ninth place in the 5000 Meters with a time of 17:27.22, moving her into seventh all-time in the event for SUU.
Trenton Maurer wrapped up his competition Friday in the heptathlon. Maurer started the day off strong with a second-place finish in the 60 Meter hurdles. In the end, he finished in seventh overall with 4591 total points.
In the men's distance medley, Jacob Francis, Jace Rodgers, Payton Riggs, and Nate Osterstock clawed their to a fourth-place finish and a new SUU record with a converted time of 9:41.84, just narrowly missing out on the top three by one second.
Freshman Cedar English walked away with ninth place in the long jump with a career-high mark of 22'7 ¾".
Jireegna Riding earned his top finish of the season in the 5000 Meters. Riding finished in 11th with a time of 14:53.00.
Dominick Vasquez also grabbed 20th place in the weight throw with a mark of 49'3 ¾."
PRELIMS
Southern Utah's sprinters also had several top performances in the prelims, setting Thunderbirds up well for tomorrow's final day of competition.
Max Morley grabbed eighth place in the 400 Meter prelims with a time of 49.53.
Noah Bringhurst finished in 11th in the 60 Meter dash with a 6.931.
Iana Michovani Graham and Shante Myrie walked away with solid performances in the women's 60 Meters. Michovani Graham finished in 12th place with a 7.79, and Myrie finished in 13th with a 7.82.
The Big Sky Indoor Championships will kick off their final day at 10:30 A.M MT, starting with the women's weight throw finals.
