Thunderbirds to Race Against In-State Rivals at Home

CEDAR CITY, Utah - After starting the season with two road meets, the Southern Utah University cross country program will showcase its skills in front of its fans for the lone home meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 4. Taking place at Cedar Ridge Golf Course, the Color Country Invitational will pit the Thunderbirds against three in-state rivals.

MEET INFORMATION

Coach Eric Houle Said

"It is always nice to compete at home. We rarely have that opportunity as we are chasing the best teams in the country each weekend. For our athletes to wake up in their own beds and be able to go home right afterwards is fantastic."

Color Country Invitational

Hosted on the Cedar Ridge Golf Course, SUU's annual home meet presents a great opportunity for Thunderbird fans to watch their teams in action. With multiple loops and a spectator-favorable course, the team hopes to see local support as they challenge multiple in-state rivals.

The mid-season competition includes Western Athletic Conference opponents Utah Valley University and Utah Tech University, as well as Snow College. However, the Thunderbirds' primary objective is to get another race under their belt before the postseason.

Due to the high elevation in Cedar City, the race has been designed to prevent burnout with plenty of season left. As such, instead of their usual 8K, the men will race a 6K at 10:30 a.m., and the women will run a 4K at 11:00 a.m., rather than their typical 6K.

The home meet could also feature an alumni 2K for former SUU athletes at 11:30 a.m., depending on registration numbers. Those interested in racing can register here.

Last Time Out

At the UC Riverside Invitational last weekend, the Thunderbirds pieced together an impressive performance that included several strong individual races. Both the men's and women's teams narrowly defeated the Utah Tech Trailblazers, who will face off with the program again this weekend.

On the men's side, Amit Cohen shone in the first race of his collegiate career, posting a 24:09.4 8K for a 14th-place finish. For the women, Aspen Hacker set a new freshman record in the 6K with a 20:55.5, earning 17th place.
