Slow Start Proves Costly as Thunderbirds Fall at Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. - Dec. 19 - Southern Utah couldn't overcome a slow start at the University of Colorado on Saturday night, falling to the Buffaloes 88-36 at the final whistle.  The loss drops the T-Birds to 3-8 on the year while CU moves to 7-2.

SUU got out to its worst start of the season, beginning the contest 0-for-12 and committing 11 turnovers that led to 15 Colorado points.  The run led to an early 24-0 advantage for the home team and only grew as the first half progressed.

Dani Hosking came off the bench late in the stanza to provide a spark, scoring the Thunderbirds final two baskets of the first half, but the teams still went into the break down 53-11.

Southern Utah was led in the second half by freshman Tayler Anderson who scored ten of her team-high 12 points, but the first-half margin proved to be insurmountable as the T-Birds fell 88-36 at the final whistle.

Anderson's 12 proved to be a career high for the Lyman, Wyo. native as was her seven rebounds during the night, also leading the Thunderbirds in that category.  Colorado's Brittany Spears led all scorers with 23 points and was joined in double digits by Bianca Smith with 15 points.

Southern Utah will be back in action on Monday night as the two-game road swing continues with a game against the Idaho State Bengals.  Tip-off for the game in Pocatello is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
