CEDAR CITY, Utah, Dec. 22 – Southern Utah University wide receiver Tysson Poots completed an All-America sweep as today he was announced as a member of The Sports Network's 2010 Football Championship Subdivision All-America First Team. It is his fourth All-American recognition of the season as earlier this month he was named to All-American teams by the National Football Coaches Asssociation, the Walter Camp Foundation and the Associated Press. He is the first player in SUU's FCS history to earn first-team honors from all four awarding associations.
The Sports Network All-America team is determined by voting among the nation's FCS sports information directors and selected media members and is the only one of the four organizations which names more than one team. The Sports Network annually names the All-America teams as well as the Walter Payton, the Buck Buchanan and the Eddie Robinson Awards, which are given to the top offensive and defensive player as well as the top coach at the FBS level. Poots was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award while SUU Coach Ed Lamb is a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award.
Poots, a graduate student from Henderson, Nev. (Coronado HS), is the active NCAA career leader in receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and receiving yards per game. This season he caught 85 passes for 1,230 yards and 11 touchdowns to finish the season ranked fourth in the nation in receptions and yards per game, the third consecutive year he has ranked among the nation's top-four in those categories.
Poots, who holds every single-season and career receiving record at Southern Utah, tied his own school single-season receptions record in 2010 while his1,230 yards rank second at SUU, six short of his own record set in 2008. The touchdown receptions rank third in school history, behind his record 15 last year and his own 14 in 2008.
Poots finished his career with 285 receptions for 3,960 yards and 43 touchdowns. In NCAA FCS history his 99.0 career receiving yards per game rank sixth, his 285 receptions rank eighth, the 43 career TDs rank ninth and his 3,960 receiving yards rank 10th.
