Thunderbirds Out-slugged by Texas Tech, 9-1.

TEMPE, ARIZ. – February 12, 2010 – In the second day of the Kajikawa Classic, the Texas Tech Red Raiders used the long-ball to make quick work of the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, winning 9-1.

In all the Raiders belted five homers, including two by third basemen Emily Bledsoe.  Mikey Kenney, Holley Gentsch and Raven Richardson also hit round trippers in route to the five inning, mercy-rule shortened conclusion.

The lone Thunderbird run came in the third inning when senior center fielder Norian James doubled in Stephanie DeJesus, who had led the inning off with a single.

The third inning hits by James and DeJesus would amount to the only Thunderbird hits of the ball game.

The Thunderbirds started the 2010 season off with a 7-6 win over Ohio yesterday.

On Saturday, the 'Birds meet San Diego State at 10:00am, and Cal State-Fullerton at 12:30.  The Kajikawa Classic, hosted by Arizona State runs through Sunday.
