Sorensen Earns 2012 Elite Quarterback Award
CEDAR CITY, Utah, Dec. 11 - Southern Utah University's
Brad Sorensen has been named College Football Performance Awards' 2012 FCS
Elite Quarterback, the CFPA has announced.
Sorensen, a quarterback from Grand Terrace, Calif., who
completed his eligibility at SUU this past fall, finished his career as the
school's all-time leading passer. He holds all of the school's career and
single-season passing records as well as most of its total yards records. He
finished his three-year career at SUU with 9,445 passing yards and 61
touchdowns, including 3,139 yards and 23 TDs in 2012.
During his three seasons at SUU Sorensen earned multiple
weekly honors from the CFPA for his contributions to the Thunderbirds' success
on the field.
In an open letter to Sorensen, Bradley C. Smith, Executive
Director of the College
Football Performance
Awards, congratulated Sorensen, noting: "I would like to take this opportunity
to commend you for all your hard work as a student-athlete at Southern
Utah.
"The goal of the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) is
to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football.
CFPA recognizes weekly, annual, and multi-season (career) award recipients -
selected based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which
individual players increase the overall
effectiveness of their teams," Smith added.
"On behalf of everyone at CFPA -- Assistant Director Harold A.
Smith, M.D., Academic Review Chair Paul Studtmann, Ph.D., Associate Director
Albert Driver, M.D., and academic review associates, including former Science
Advisor to President Obama, Lawrence Krauss, Ph.D., please accept our sincerest
congratulations."
Sorensen joins Michigan State running back Le'Veon Bell as the
first two honorees for 2012. Bell earned the 2012 Elite Running Back award.
Sorensen is Southern Utah's second player to earn a career Elite
award from the CFPA, joining Tysson Poots, who earned the honor at wide
receiver following the conclusion of his career in 2011.
