Mikkel Griffin Named Summit League Player of the Week

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah University's Mikkel Griffin has been named the Summit League Softball Player of the Week for her performance over the weekend that saw the Thunderbirds sweep Oakland University in a trio of games. The award is the second for the junior this season.

Griffin just missed out on her second weekend of perfection, batting 8-of-9 from the plate for an .889 average with a double and home run. The St. George native also led the team with a pair of stolen bases and accounted for close to 25 percent of Southern Utah's runs (29) with seven. The performance helped the Thunderbirds post three run-rule victories over Oakland, 9-0, 10-1 and 10-2.

Griffin leads the team and the Summit League this season with a .508 average, 31 hits, five home runs, 19 runs scored, 20 RBI, a .605 on base percentage and an .820 slugging percentage.

SUU softball will be back in action this weekend when the Thunderbirds host the University of South Dakota on Friday and Saturday.
