Silent Auction Preview
CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah University and the SUU Thunderbird Club are proud to host the 2015 Ladies Luncheon on Friday, February 27, in the Great Hall of the Hunter Conference Center on the SUU campus. The event will begin with silent auction at 11:30 a.m. followed by a lunch program at noon.
The annual banquet is a celebration of women's athletics, specifically designed to encourage support of SUU female student-athletes' efforts in their respective athletic and academic endeavors. Myndee Kay Larsen will be the featured keynote speaker at the 2015 Ladies Luncheon. Being recognized at this year's luncheon are two accomplished women with deep ties to SUU athletics: Connie Nyman and Mona Hiskey.
Myndee Kay Larsen is currently the Senior Associate Commissioner of the Summit League. In addition to her duties at the league office, she has served on three different NCAA Committees: the Leadership Council, the Division I liaison to the Committee on Women's and the Women's Basketball Recruiting Subcommittee. Prior to joining the Summit League, Larsen was a leader in Thunderbird athletics, serving in various positions including: Associate Athletic Director of Student Services, Compliance Coordinator, Interim Athletics Director and Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. She was inducted into the SUU Hall of Fame in 2013. Currently the only women's basketball player to have her jersey retired, Larsen was a four-year letterwinner for the Thunderbirds. She ended her career as the SUU women's career leader in rebounds, blocked shots and field goal percentage, and as the second-leading scorer. She still holds NCAA records for consecutive field goals made and single-season field goal percentage.
A passionate fan of SUU athletics since 1970, Connie Nyman can always be found at the scorer's table. Nyman has been a stalwart in collecting stats and record keeping for SUU athletics. Nyman also played a key role in fostering diversity and the growth of women's sports at Southern Utah. She has worked on numerous Title IX issues as an advocate for women's sports and served on the NCAA accreditation committee. An associate professor of information systems, Nyman has taught many student-athletes in the classroom. She enjoys getting to know the student-athletes and staying in contact with them after they graduate. Nyman will be the recipient of the Thunderbird Enthusiast Award.
Mona Hiskey has deep roots in the Cedar City community and SUU. She is a direct descendant of Cedar City colonizer, C.P. Liston, her husband, Harold, formerly served as Dean of the SUSC Business School, she earned her associates degree from SUSC, and has had multiple children and grandchildren attend SUU. Hiskey played an important role in the organization and introduction of many of the current women's athletics programs at SUU. One of the achievements that Hiskey is most proud of is the assisting in the fundraising for the Centrum Arena. Hiskey will be named the recipient of the Thunderbird Legacy Award for her countless contributions to the furthering of women's athletics at SUU.
