CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Lady T-Birds will hit the road for the second time this season to take on the University of San Diego on November 14 and return home to play their first regular season game against Binghamton University on November 18.
Last Time Out
Last week Southern Utah took on Brigham Young University where the Thunderbirds fought their way into overtime. BYU ultimately topped SUU 75-67.
Ashley Larsen was first to put points up for SUU who trailed BYU 23-11 at the end of the first quarter. SUU then picked up the pace and went on 16-2 run, placing the Thunderbirds just behind the Cougars with a score of 34-31 going into the half.
Southern Utah took control of the third leading BYU 47-43 at the end of the quarter. The Cougars were able to tie it up at 61-61 to end the fourth quarter and take the game to overtime.
In overtime BYU used a 9-0 run to put them up 70-61 with SUU shooting back-to-back three pointers but ultimately falling to the Cougars 75-67.
Scouting Report: University of San Diego Toreros
The last time Southern Utah and University of San Diego met was in November of 2007 where the Toreros beat the Thunderbirds 63-45. The two schools will face each other again on November 14.
The Toreros (1-0) who went 14-16 last season opened their 2017-18 season with an 82-53 win over San Diego Christian. Caroline Buhr led the Toreros with 19 points while bringing down 11 rebounds. USD outrebounded San Diego Christian 52-18.
Buhr led the Toreros in rebounds and field goal percentage last season and her career field goal percentage of 50.2 percent is the fifth best in program history.
The Toreros also won their exhibition game against Biola 79-58.
The Lady T-Birds will face the Toreros of University of San Diego on Tuesday, November 14 Â at 7 p.m. MT at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Tuesday's game will be broadcast on Watch Stadium. Links to live streams as well as live stats will be available at suutbirds.com.
Scouting Report: Binghamton University Bearcats
SUU will return home to face the Bearcats of Binghamton University (0-1) on November 18. Binghamton will have two games prior to facing the Thunderbirds.
The Bearcats, who went 13-17 last season opened their season in a game against Army where they ultimately fell to the Black Knights 73-61.
Senior Imani Watkins led the team offensively against Army with 21 points as well as four rebounds and three assists. Watkins has had 31 career games with at least 20 points and currently has 1,489 points.
Southern Utah will host Binghamton University on Saturday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. MT in the America First Event Center. This game will be available to watch on Pluto TV, channel 236. Live stats will also be provided on suutbirds.com.
