Box Score CHENEY, Wash. - The Southern Utah University women's basketball team finished off a three game roadtrip Saturday afternoon as they took on the Eastern Washington Eagles in Cheney. The team could not overcome a strong defensive effort from the Eagles in the opening quarter as they fell 58-41.
The Lady T-Birds scored just three points in the opening quarter, while on the other side of the ball the Eagles were having what would turn out to be their best quarter of the game. The T-Birds bounced back in the second quarter, but went into halftime with just 17 points on the board.
The Thunderbirds came out in the second half looking to close the gap as they opened with a 12-2 run cutting the Eagle lead from 20 down to nine. They were able to double their score in the third quarter and seemed poised to make a comeback in the fourth. However, the Eagles were able to keep the Thunderbirds at a distance and come away with the 58-41 victory.
Natalie Sanchez led the Thunderbird attack with 12 points on the night, all scored in the second half. Rebecca Cardenas finished with eight points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals on the night. Breanu Reid also finished with eight points and added four rebounds of her own.
The Lady T-Birds will return home next week as they host the Montana Grizzlies and the Montana State Bobcats.
