Lady T-Birds Set for First Road Game of 2018-19 Season

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah women's basketball team will look to move to 2-0 this Thursday November 15 as they take on UC Riverside in California.

Last Time Out

The Lady T-Birds opened the 2018-19 season at home last week with a 69-59 win over the University of San Diego. Rebecca Cardenas led the Thunderbirds with 18 points and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Senior Breanu Reid had 12 points and Harley Hansen had nine points and five steals in her Southern Utah debut.

SUU also saw two freshmen make solid debuts as Hannah Robins and Geassy Germano played in their first games as Thunderbirds. Robins got the start at center for the T-Birds and scored seven points and pulled down five rebounds. Germano scored five points and grabbed four rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench.

The win over the Toreros was the first career win as a head coach for Tracy Sanders.

Scouting Report: UC Riverside Highlanders (0-3)

The Highlanders opened their season with three straight road games in one week, traveling to USC, BYU, and Oklahoma State. They dropped all three contests, narrowly losing to the Cougars 72-70 in overtime.

Jannon Otto has been the leading scorer for the Highlanders so far, averaging 15.3 points per game on 57.1 percent shooting. Marina Ewodo is the leading rebounder averaging 9.7 per game. The junior is also averaging 12.7 points per game.

The two teams last met during the 2002-03 season, as the Thunderbirds opened their season with a 65-57 win at home over UCR.

Thursday's game is set to tip off at 8:00 p.m. Mountain time (7:00 p.m. Pacific time) inside SRC Arena in Riverside, California. The game will be streamed live on BigWest.tv and live stats will be available at gohighlanders.com.
