CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah women's basketball team will continue a three-game California road trip this week, taking on UC Irvine on November 20 and UC Davis on November 23.
Last Time Out
Southern Utah played their first road contest of the season last week in Riverside, California, Despite leading for most of the game, the Thunderbirds picked up their first loss of the season, 50-56 to UC Riverside.
Breanu Reid was the leading scorer for the Thunderbirds, dropping in 12 points and pulling in five rebounds. Harley Hansen was the only other T-Bird in double-digit scoring with 10 points. Hannah Robins and Rebecca Cardenas each had 11 rebounds and Robins was one point shy of her first career double-double with nine points.
The Lady T-Birds also held the Highlanders to just 1-for-17 from three-point range.
Scouting Report: UC Irvine Anteaters (2-0)
The Anteaters will be looking to stay undefeated on Tuesday against the Thunderbirds. They opened the season with a 105-31 win over Life Pacific and followed it up with a 57-55 victory over UNLV.
After two games, sophomore Jordan Sanders is the leading scorer for UC Irvine, averaging 20 points per game and 9.5 rebounds. Fellow sophomore Haleigh Talbert is averaging 12 point per game off the bench for the Anteaters.
The Thunderbirds and the Anteaters matched up last season in Cedar City with UCI coming out on top 71-64. Former Thunderbird Whitney Johnson had 20 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
Scouting Report: UC Davis Aggies (0-3)
Coming off of a trip to the Big West Championship Tournament Final in 2017-18, the Aggies are still looking for their first win in 2018-19. They have opened the season with three straight losses to No. 7 Stanford, Pacific University, and Portland State.
Redshirt senior Morgan Bertsch is the leading scorer for the UC Davis, averaging 22 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game, after three games. Junior Nina Bessolo is the only other Aggie in double-digit scoring, averaging 10 points per game.
UC Davis also made the trip to Cedar City last season, beating the Thunderbirds 85-59. The Aggies will take on Washington State on Sunday before hosting the T-Birds.
