CEDAR CITY, Utah - Coming off of a huge 67-64 comeback victory over the BYU Cougars on Tuesday, the Southern Utah women's basketball team will look to keep things rolling this Saturday in Tulsa, Oklahoma against Oral Roberts University.
Last Time Out
The Thunderbirds moved to 2-0 at home Tuesday night as they came back from an 11-point deficit to take down BYU. They outscored the Cougars 23-9 in the third quarter and were able to fight off the Cougar attack in the fourth to secure the victory.
Harley Hansen was the leading scorer for the Thunderbirds, leading all scorers with a career-high 18 points. She also led all rebounders with eight, shot 50 percent from behind the arc, and had three steals. Three other Thunderbirds finished in double-digit points as Breanu Reid had 15, Rebecca Cardenas had 12, and Ashley Larsen had 11. Cardenas had seven assists while Larsen finished with three blocks.
"I'm super proud of the girls. I think they played really hard. To be down at halftime and come out in the second half the way they did was phenomenal," head coach Tracy Sanders said. "We talked about defense and rebounding, things that are staples for us to win games, and they did a great job of executing to start the second half and get us back in the game."
Rankings Summary
As a team, the Thunderbirds are leading the Big Sky Conference and are 15th in the nation in personal fouls per game, averaging just 13.8 fouls per contest. They are second in the Big Sky in three-point field goal defense, holding opposing teams to just 23 percent from behind the arc. The T-Birds can also be found in the top five in the Big Sky in blocked shots, steals, rebound margin, and scoring defense.
Individually, Harley Hansen leads the Big Sky in steals with 14 and Ashley Larsen is tied for the conference lead in blocked shots with eight.
Scouting Report: Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (3-4)
The Golden Eagles are coming off of a 74-61 loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks Wednesday night in Fayetteville. Keni Jo Lippe had 23 points and was 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the loss.
Redshirt senior Lakota Beatty is the leading scorer for ORU, averaging 13.9 points per game with Lippe right behind her at 13.6 ppg. Junior Montserrat Brotons leads the team in rebounding, averaging 5.1 rebounds per game.
The Golden Eagles three wins on the season have come over Texas State, Missouri-Kansas City, and Harris-Stowe.
