BOISE, Idaho - The Southern Utah women's basketball team played their final non-conference game of 2018-19 Wednesday night, losing 53-88 to the Boise State Broncos.
The Thunderbirds opened the game hot, making their first four baskets to take a 10-7 lead over the Broncos early. Unfortunately, that would end up being the last time the T-Birds would hold a lead in this one as Boise State went on a 12-1 run that lasted the rest of the opening quarter and never looked back.
The Broncos continued their run in the second, opening the quarter with a 14-2 run to make it 33-13. Hannah Robins was the only T-Bird to score in the first seven minutes of the second quarter, scoring four points on two layups. Harley Hansen was able to send the Thunderbirds into halftime with her first three pointer of the game, but Southern Utah would end up trailing 45-24.
Things wouldn't get much better for the Thunderbirds in the second half. The Broncos extended their lead to as much as 41 in the fourth quarter. Southern Utah was able to go on a 7-0 run and make four of their last five shots from the field to cut into the lead, but ultimately fell 88-53.
Hansen was the leading scorer for the Thunderbirds with 13 points. She also had three rebounds and three steals. Ashley Larsen also finished in double-digits with 10 points and had four rebounds and a block.
The Lady T-Birds will open Big Sky Conference play on December 29 against Montana State in Bozeman.
