Lady T-Birds Look to Continue Winning Ways at Home Against Wolverines and Pioneers

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah women's basketball team will be looking to extend their two-game winning streak inside of the America First Event Center this week as they host the Utah Valley Wolverines on December 4 and the Denver Pioneers on December 8.

Last Time Out

The Thunderbirds are coming off a week in which they knocked off the BYU Cougars 67-64 and fell to Oral Roberts in a nailbiter 59-64.

In the win over the Cougars, Harley Hansen led all scorers with a career-high 18 points and alos pulled down a career-high eight rebounds. Breanu Reid, Rebecca Cardenas, and Ashley Larsen all broke into double-digit scoring as well.

In Saturday's loss to ORU, the Thunderbirds held a 34-31 lead at halftime, but were outscored by the Golden Eagles 33-25 in the second half. Cardenas led the way with 14 points and four steals while Reid and Larsen had 13 and 10 points respectively. Larsen and Kiana Thomas were the leading rebounders for SUU with seven each.

The Thunderbirds are now 2-4 on the season and will match their season win total from 2017-18 with their next victory.

Scouting Report: Utah Valley Wolverines (4-3)

The Wolverines will come to Cedar City for their third-straight game against an in-state rival. After opening the season with four wins in five games, UVU has dropped their last two 77-51 to BYU and 85-47 to the University of Utah.

Junior Jordan Holland and freshman Eve Braslis lead the Wolverines in scoring and rebounding. Holland is averaging 12.3 points per game and Braslis is averaging 11.9 ppg. Both are averaging 6.4 rebounds per game.

The Wolverines have won the last three matchups, with the Thunderbirds last winning in 2014-15 in Orem.

Scouting Report: Denver Pioneers (6-1)

The Denver Pioneers are currently riding a four-game winning streak after defeating Loyola Marymount on Saturday 104-75. Their only loss of the season came on November 16 to Northern Colorado in what has been their only road game so far in 2018-19.

Lauren Loven leads the Pioneers in scoring averaging 21.1 points per game and shooting an impressive 64.9 percent from beyond the arc. Madison Nelson is Denver's leading rebounder, averaging 10.6 per game.

This is the first meeting between the Thunderbirds and the Pioneers since Southern Utah joined the Big Sky in 2012.

Game Info

Tuesday's game against UVU is set to tip off at 12:00 p.m. Mountain time. This game will be the Lady T-Birds' annual Field Trip Game where local elementary schools are invited to attend the game as part of a field trip.

Saturday's game against Denver is set to tip off at 1:00 p.m. Mountain time. Both games will be streamed live on PlutoTV channel 236 and live stats for both will be available at tbirdstats.com.
