Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - The Southern Utah women's basketball team opened their final roadtrip of the regular season Thursday night with a 70-66 loss to the Portland State Vikings.
The first half was all Vikings as the Thunderbirds were held to just 21 points. Ashley Larsen had nine first half points to lead the T-Birds. Portland State held a 37-21 lead going into the break.
Southern Utah beat the Vikings offensively in the second half, breaking the 20 point mark in both quarters and outscoring them 45-33.
With about two and a half minutes left in the game, Skylee Doman hit a jumper to bring the Thunderbirds within four of Portland State. The teams would go back and forth for the next two minutes until another bucket from Doman and a steal and a layup from Larsen with :18 left on the clock made it 67-66 PSU.
The Thunderbirds wouldn't be able to score again in the game however, losing 70-66.
Four Thunderbirds finished with double digit points. Larsen and Whitney Johnson each had 13 with Johnson picking up seven rebounds. Natalie Sanchez finished with 12 and her cousin, Rebecca Cardenas, had 11. Cardenas also had three steals on the night.
PSU's Ashley Bolston was the leading scorer in the game, finishing with 26 points.
The Thunderbirds will return to the court Saturday in Sacramento, California to take on the Hornets of Sacramento State.
