Box Score SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Southern Utah women's basketball team wrapped up the road portion of the 2017-18 regular season Saturday afternoon with a 79-77 last second loss to the Sacramento State Hornets.
The Hornets had the upper hand in the first half, breaking the 20 point mark in both quarters. They outscored the Thunderbirds 41-30 in the opening 20 minutes. Kiana Johnson had six points in the first half, while Ashley Larsen pulled in five rebounds.
Similar to Thursday's game against Portland State, Southern Utah came out of the halftime break hot. The Thunderbirds shot close to 50 percent in the second half, outscoring the Hornets 47-38.
This time the T-Birds were able to tie the game with three minutes remaining in the game. They hung with the Hornets through the final minutes and took a one point lead with just ten seconds left. The teams traded free throws and were all tied up at 77-77 with five seconds left.
After a Thunderbird foul gave them possession, the Hornets made the final bucket as time expired to take the 79-77 win.
Johnson finished with 16 points off the bench for the T-Birds. Larsen had 13 points and nine rebounds. Natalie Sanchez also had 13 points to go along with four rebounds.
Next week will be the final week of the regular season for the Lady T-Birds as they host Eastern Washington and Idaho.
