CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah women's basketball team will be heading to the west coast this week to take take on the Portland State Vikings on Thursday January 17 and the Sacramento State Hornets on Saturday January 19.
Last Time Out
The Thunderbirds played just one game last week, going into Flagstaff and coming out with their second overtime victory in a row 82-76 over Northern Arizona.
Harley Hansen was the leading scorer for the Thunderbirds with 19 points, her eighth-consecutive game in double-digits. The junior also pulled in five rebounds and had three steals. Breanu Reid, Jessica Chatman, and Ashley Larsen all finished in double-digits for SUU and Chatman was one rebound short of a double-double (13 points, nine rebounds).
The win marked the first time the Lady T-Birds have won two games in a row since the beginning of the 2016-17 season when they opened with three straight wins. The Thunderbirds have also now matched their conference win total for the last three seasons, having not won more than two Big Sky games every year since the 2014-15 season.
Scouting Report: Portland State Vikings (11-2, 3-1 BSC)
The Vikings won their first eight games to start the 2018-19 season and will host the Thunderbirds in the midst of a three-game winning streak. Their only two losses came to UC Irvine and Northern Colorado.
Four Vikings are currently averaging double-digits in scoring with redshirt senior Sidney Rielly leading the way with 14.3 points per game. Courtney West is the leading rebounder averaging 7.3 rebounds per game.
The two teams only met once last year with the Vikings coming out on top 70-66. The Thunderbirds' last victory over PSU came in the 2016-17 season in Cedar City.
Scouting Report: Sacramento State Hornets (4-8, 0-4 BSC)
After winning three of their first four games of the season, the Hornets come into the weekend with a 4-8 record and are still looking for their first Big Sky victory.
Hannah Friend leads the Hornets in scoring, averaging 19.8 points per game. The junior is currently second in the Big Sky and tied for 26th in the country in scoring average. Fellow junior Kennedy Nicholas is averaging a double-double with 12.8 ppg and 11.2 rpg.
The Hornets have won the last seven matchups, with the Thunderbirds last coming out on top in the first round of the 2014 Big Sky Championship tournament.

Thursday's game against the Vikings is set to tip off at 8:00 p.m. Mountain time (7:00 p.m. local time) inside Viking Pavilion. Saturday's game against the Hornets is set to ip off at 3:00 p.m. Mountain time (2:00 p.m. local time) in Sacramento.
