GREELEY, Colo. - The Thunderbird men's basketball team saw their four game winning streak come to an end on Thursday evening on the road, as they fell to the University of Northern Colorado Bears 79-68.
The Thunderbirds improved greatly half to half, as they trailed 37-22 at the break after shooting just 18 percent from the field and going 0-for-12 from behind the three point line.
In the second frame the T-Birds scored 46 points on 13-of-27 shooting, and hit seven of the 12 triples that were attempted. Ultimately, hot shooting from the Bears and 36 points from their star guard Jordan Davis was too much for the T-Birds.
With the loss, SUU moves to 9-8 on the year and 4-4 in Big Sky Conference play.
"Early on we were just poor offensively," SUU head coach Todd Simon said following the contest. "We couldn't make a shot, they were riding Davis who is arguably the best player in the league and was on today, so those factors put us in too big of a hole to dig out of." Â Â
Brandon Better finished the night just one point away from his season high, scoring 22 points and knocking down four triples. He also finished 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Â Â
Harrison Butler was second for the T-Birds with 15 points, shooting 4-of-6 from the field and 6-of-9 from the free throw line.
Both Butler and Cameron Oluyitan fouled out in the contest, while Dre Marin and Andre Adams finished the game with four fouls each.
"We haven't' had that issue for a number of games, and it kind of creeped up again today," Simon said. "Obviously you want to get Harrison more minutes, and for Cam it added to the tentativeness defensively. It wasn't good for our schemes and what we wanted to do tonight."
The Thunderbirds will be back in action on Monday afternoon, as they'll square off against the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona for the second time this season. SUU previously knocked off their Grand Canyon rival in Cedar City.
