RELEASE | Flippin' Birds Announce 2019 Signing Class
CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Thunderbird gymnastics program and head coach Scotty Bauman have announced the signing of three gymnasts as part of the 2019 signing period.
Emma Ingrassia, 5-2, Bel Air, Maryland (First State Gymnastics)
Joining the Thunderbirds from Bel Air, Maryland, is Emma Ingrassia who competes for First State Gymnastics.
"Emma is a very explosive athlete with a lot of potential," Bauman said. "She is a late bloomer for a gymnast and is just coming into her own."
Ingrassia is a two-time national qualifier. She finished in the top-five on bars, beam and floor at the Junior Olympics Regional Championships as well as finishing sixth in the all-around at Regionals.
"As soon as I finished my first camp at SUU I knew that it was the place for me," Ingrassia said. "It was the perfect fit that everyone had been telling me about and there is no place I would rather be. I can't wait."
Aubri Schwartze, 5-7, Ames, Iowa (Triad Gymnastics)
Joining the Flippin' Birds from Ames, Iowa is Aubri Schwartze. She competes for Triad Gymnastics out in Ames.
"Aubri has great leadership to go along with her beautiful gymnastics," Bauman said. "She has the ability to contribute on all four events, with bars being the area with the biggest impact."
Schwartze is a three-time national qualifier. In 2019 she was the State Champion on both bars and beam. In 2018 she was the Junior Olympic REgional bar champion and runner-up on the balance beam.
Hailey Vultaggio, 4-10, Ronkonkoma, New York (APEX Athletics)
Coming to Cedar City from New York, Hailey Vultaggio will join the Flippin' Birds after competing for APEX Athletics.
"Hailey is a little ball of fire," Bauman said. "Her balance beam is packed with difficulty and has some unique skills. Her power on floor and vault will wow the crowd in the AFEC."
She is a two-time national qualifier. She placed in the top-three on vault, beam and floor, as well as the all around, at the 2019 Regional Championships.
"I chose SUU because the atmosphere is just amazing," Vultaggio said. "For someone who loves the outdoors and just enjoying nature to its fullest, southern Utah is 100 percent the place for me. And for someone who comes from a high school with a T-bird mascot, you know what they say, once a T-Bird, always a T-Bird."
