Lady T-Birds Set to Host Lady Rebels, Take On Nationally Ranked Beavers

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah women's basketball team will host the UNLV Lady Rebels on Tuesday November 19 inside the America First Event Center before heading to Corvallis, Oregon to take on the No. 7 Oregon State Beavers on Thursday November 21.

Last Time Out

The Thunderbirds took their first loss of the season last week, falling 69-65 at the hands of Grand Canyon University.

Rebecca Cardenas was the leading scorer for the T-Birds in the loss, leading all scorers with 18 points on the night. She also had seven assists, two rebounds, and two steals. Jessica Chatman followed right behind her with 17 points, 15 of them scored in the second half. Chatman was the team's leading rebounder with eight and went 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Shalyn Fano was the only other Thunderbird in double-digit points, putting up 11 on 3-for-3 from three-point range.

Ashley Larsen leads the Big Sky in rebounding, averaging 9.5 boards per game. Chatman leads the conference in free throw percentage, shooting 92.9 percent from the charity stripe. Cardenas is second in the conference in scoring, averaging 17.7 points per game.

Scouting Report: UNLV Lady Rebels (0-2)

The Lady Rebels are off to a slow start in 2019, losing their first two games against CSU Fullerton and Duke. They are coming off of a 2018-19 season in which they finished 12-18 and 10-8 in the Mountain West Conference.

Sophomore Justice Ethridge leads the Rebels in scoring, averaging 11 points per game. She also leads the team in steals with four. Senior Rodjanae Wade leads the team in rebounding averaging 10 per game.

The Thunderbirds and the Rebels last matched up during the 2015-16 season in Las Vegas where UNLV came away with a 79-44 victory.

Scouting Report: No. 7 Oregon State Beavers (4-0)

The No. 7 Beavers are coming off of a dominating Preseason WNIT title win, taking down UC Irvine, University of Pacific, DePaul University, and Missouri State in the process. Before starting the regular season in the WNIT, the Beavers played an exhibition against Team USA, giving the national team all it could handle before falling 58-81.

Mikayla Pivec leads the Beavers and is fourth in the Pac-12 in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game. Taylor Jones and Destiny Slocum are also top-10 in the conference in scoring with Jones averaging 16 ppg and Slocum averaging 15.5 ppg.

The Beavers finished last season 26-8 and 14-4 in the Pac-12. Head coach Scott Rueck is in his 10th season at the helm of the program.

Game Info

Tuesday's game against the Rebels is set to tip off at 6:30 p.m. inside the AFEC. The game will be streamed live on PlutoTV channel 536 and live stats will be available at tbirdstats.com. The game will be a Blackout Game and fans in attendance are encouraged to wear black. 40 free black t-shirts will be handed out at the game.

The donation must be made at the America First Event Center Ticket Office and each donation is worth one entry.
