CEDAR CITY, Utah -- After starting the season with a victory at home, the Thunderbirds will head out on the road to face off against the Nebraska Cornhuskers of the Big 10 Conference. Tipoff in Lincoln is set for 12:00 p.m. MT on Saturday.
Last Time Out
The T-Birds started the year on the right note, knocking off the Bethesda Flames 110-66.
Southern Utah opened the game on a 8-0 run, and didn't look back from there. They were able to outscore the Flames 62-31 in the first 20 minutes of competition.
The second half was closer, but the T-Birds still outscored Bethesda 48-35.
Dre Marin led the scoring effort for the Thunderbirds, dropping 20 on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. For Marin, that matched his career high in terms of scoring. Dwayne Morgan was close behind him, scoring 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
Three more Thunderbirds finished in double figures, as Jakolby Long had 16, Cameron Oluyitan had 15 and John Knight III finished with 14.
SUU finished with 25 assists on 40 made baskets.
The T-Birds had 54 points in the paint and 30 points off turnovers.
Opponent Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers (0-1, 0-0 Big Ten)
The Cornhuskers of Nebraska will host the Thunderbirds after opening their season with a 66-47 loss to UC Riverside.
Cam Mack was the leading scorer and rebounder for Nebraska, dropping in 11 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Matej Kavas finished with 10 points.
The 'Huskers shot just 29 percent from the field in the contest.
Fred Hoiberg is in his first season as head coach at Nebraska after serving as the head coach of the Chicago Bulls from 2015-18. Before taking the helm of one of the NBA's 30 franchises, he was the head coach at Iowa State from 2010-15.
