SEATTLE, Wash. - The Southern Utah gymnastics team scored their second 196.000 of the season Sunday afternoon as they competed against No. 19 Washington. The Huskies scored a 196.200 to take the narrow victory.
This is the fourth time this season the Flippin' Birds have hit the 196.000 mark and second consecutive meet they have done it, after scoring a 196.350 on Friday in Logan.
Sophomore Hannah Nipp had a big day for the Thunderbirds competing on three events and not scoring lower than a 9.850. She earned a 9.850 on bars and scored back-to-back 9.875's on floor and beam. Nipp was named beam event champion and Shylen Murakami took home the bars event champion title.
The Flippin' Birds tied their season-high on bars scoring a 49.125. Murakami led the way with her second 9.875 this season. Nipp followed with a 9.850 and Autumn Jorgensen scored a 9.825. Stephanie Tervort earned a 9.800 and Caitlin Kho rounded out the scoring with a 9.775.
Southern Utah also broke the 49.000 mark on floor where they scored a 49.100. Nipp's 9.875 led the way and both Kho and Karen Gonzalez scored a 9.825. Molly Jozwiakowski earned a 9.800 for her routine and Madison McBride and Madison Loomis both rounded out the scoring with a 9.775.
Over on beam, Nipp's 9.875 was the highest score for the Thunderbirds. Karley McClain scored a 9.800 in her only event of the night and Murakami scored a 9.775. Alyssa LaDieu scored a 9.750 and Gonzalez rounded out the scoring with a 9.725.
Tervort and Rachel Smith had the highest scores for SUU on the vault, each scoring a 9.800. Morgan Alfaro earned a 9.775 and Kho scored a 9.750. Madison McBride rounded out the scoring with a 9.725.
The Flippin' Birds will compete in their final regular season meet this Friday against BYU.
