PROVO, Utah - The No. 25 Southern Utah gymnastics team competed in their final regular season meet Friday night as they scored a 195.975 in a meet against the No. 14 BYU Cougars. The Cougars scored a 196.550 to take the victory and even the season series at 1-1.

Shylen Murakami claimed the balance beam event champion title for having the best score on the event between the two teams. The freshman scored a 9.875 to claim the title. Karley McClain and Morgan Alfaro also had high scores for the Thunderbirds. McClain set a new career-high with a 9.925 on floor and Alfaro scored a 9.875 on vault.

The Flippin' Birds scored their highest team score of the night on bars with a 49.075. Murakami and Autumn Jorgensen led the way with a 9.850 each. Hannah Nipp scored a 9.825 and Stephanie Tervort scored a 9.800. Mary Packham and Caitlin Kho rounded out the scoring with a 9.750.

The Thunderbirds' next highest score came on beam where Murakami's 9.875 helped them score a 49.000. McClain followed that with a 9.850 and Alyssa LaDieu scored a 9.775. Nipp and Jorgensen both scored a 9.750 to round out the scoring on the event.

Over on floor, McClain had the high score for the T-Birds with her new career-high 9.925. Nipp scored a 9.825 and Karen Gonzalez scored a 9.800. Molly Jozwiakowski earned a 9.750 and Madison McBride rounded out the scoring with a 9.650.

On vault, Alfaro's 9.875 paced the Thunderbirds to a team score of 48.950. Rachel Smith earned a 9.800 and both Tervort and Madison McBride scored a 9.775. Kho rounded out the scoring with a 9.725.

The Flippin' Birds will now get ready to head back to Provo next week for the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Championship Meet on Friday March 22.
