2019 Spring Football Q&A: Demario Warren

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Thunderbird football team kicked off their 2019 Spring Practice schedule on Wednesday evening, and Demario Warren answered some questions following the first day back on the field in the Coliseum.

Q: Overall, how do you think the first day of practice went?

A: I'm excited about the focus. It's easy to bring energy day one, the guys were hustling, having fun and had great effort, but it's day one. They haven't played football for a long time so that's expected. But they had the ability to be able focus with that energy. I thought our strength coach, Andrew Shirek, did a great job in the offseason getting these guys prepared, and then at the beginning of practice getting them to focus in on what's important and staying in the moment.

Q: How was the transition of strength coaches over the offseason?

A: Every guy has his own philosophy, own character, and he was himself the whole time. I think the guys responded to that. He demanded a lot coming off a losing season like we did. Coming off a difficult season for everybody, I thought he was the right type of guy to come in here and challenge the guys to not just get better, but be the best. I think he did a great job of that every single day.

Q: What did you see out of Brandon Fisher during his first day on the field?

A: He brought a ton of energy. Guys ran to the football. Accountability was there, and the guys are bought in to him and his philosophies. I'm just excited to see what the product will be at the end of spring and heading into summer.

Q: What are you hoping to get accomplished in these first couple days?

A: We want to set the standards of practice and meetings. Making sure guys know how we do things. Be able to replicate that, get better at that each and every day, if we can do that and build on that week after week, when we get into situational football we'll have success by the end of spring and take that momentum into the summer.
