SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Southern Utah women's basketball team wrapped up their west coast road trip Saturday afternoon with a 82-87 loss to Sacramento State.
The Lady T-Birds are now 8-7 overall and 2-4 in Big Sky play on the season.
Rebecca Cardenas picked up her first double-double of the season with 19 points and a career-high 12 assists. Harley Hansen led all scorers with a season-high 25 points. Shalyn Fano also broke double-digits with 12 points and Ashley Larsen led the Thunderbirds in rebounding with nine.
As a team, the Thunderbirds outshot the Hornets 50.8 percent to 45.1 percent and knocked down 12 three-pointers.
It was a close game all the way through, with 10 lead changes and five different times where the score was tied. Neither team led by more than nine points at anytime and both teams put together 10-0 runs in the fourth quarter.
Down 66-71 with 7:24 to go, the Thunderbirds put together a 10-0 run, six of the points scored by Cardenas, to take a five-point lead. However, the lead wouldn't last long as the Hornets immediately answered with a 10-0 run of their own to take the lead back.Â
With :38 remaining the T-Birds went into foul mode, but couldn't get their shots to fall while the Hornets went a perfect six-for-six on free throws.
The Lady T-Birds will be back home next weekend when they host Eastern Washington on January 25.
