USAFA, Colo. -- The Southern Utah University Thunderbird men's tennis team competed in a three match weekend where they defeated Colorado State University Pueblo and Metropolitan State University of Denver. The men closed the weekend with a loss to Air Force.
The T-Birds started with competition against CSU Pueblo where they finished ahead of the competition closing the match 7-0.
Nolan McCaig and Conor Tordoff competed in doubles competition where they defeated their opponents 6-4.
The team continued to compete against the MSU Denver Roadrunners where they finished victorious 4-3. At the beginning of play, the Thunderbirds trailed the Roadrunners 0-3. However, the team came back to win the match overall.
Jake Williams was among several athletes to secure a victory for the Thunderbirds with his play in singles competition where he defeated David Kijak 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
To close the weekend, the Thunderbirds faced Air Force where they fell 3-4. Juan Erro and Jose Ortega secured points for the T-Birds in singles play. Erro finished his match against Jamie Bautista 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (3). Ortega claimed his victory over Sean McKendree 7-6, 0-6, 1-0 (8).
The Thunderbirds will look to compete next against UC Riverside on February 1.
