CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah women's basketball team will head out on the road for their next four games, starting this week at Weber State in January 30 and Idaho State on February 1.
Last Time Out
The Thunderbirds saw their home undefeated streak come to an end this week, but not before extending it to 8-0 with a 71-50 win over Eastern Washington. In the victory, Rebecca Cardenas became the Southern Utah all-time steals leader with the 245th steal of her career, breaking the record of 244 held by Kim Free (1985-89).
Cardenas continues to lead the Big Sky in scoring, averaging 17.2 points per game, and steals, averaging 2.4 per game. She is also third in assists (4.7 apg) and fifth in field goal percentage (.408).
Harley Hansen has led the team in scoring over their last three games and has catapulted to the top of the Big Sky offensive categories. The senior leads the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.427), is third in overall field goal percentage (.471), and is fourth in the conference in scoring (14.4 ppg). Her 42.7 three-point percentage is the 29th best in the entire NCAA.
Scouting Report: Weber State Wildcats (3-15, 1-8)
The Wildcats come into the week in the midst of a five-game losing streak and have won just one of their last 10 games, a 65-60 win over Northern Colorado.
Redshirt junior Liz Graves leads the Wildcats in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game. She is also the team's second-leading rebounder, averaging 5.5 per game. Kayla Watkins is WSU's leading rebounder at 5.9 per game.
The two teams split the season series last year with the Thunderbirds winning in overtime in Cedar City and the Wildcats winning by one in Ogden.
Scouting Report: Idaho State Bengals (8-10, 4-5)
This will be the second meeting of the season between the Thunderbirds and the Bengals and the T-Birds will be looking for the sweep in Pocatello after beating the Bengals 72-65 in overtime in Cedar City.
Shalyn Fano led all scorers in the game with 22 points, was 4-for-6 from the free throw line, and was also the leading rebounder for the T-Birds with eight. Cardenas put up 18 points and had five steals, two of which came in overtime. Hansen contributed 13 points and five rebounds. The Lady T-Birds forced the Bengals into 19 turnovers and scored 21 points off of those turnovers.
Sophomore Callie Bourne leads the team in scoring and rebounding averaging 12.6 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game.
