Men’s Hoops Falls In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Thunderbird men's basketball team fell on the road Thursday night, as the Sacramento State Hornets outscored them 70-55 in the Golden State.

With the loss the Thunderbirds are now 14-10 on the season, with a 7-6 record in the Big Sky Conference.

"We just didn't have it tonight," SUU head coach Todd Simon said. "Offensively we were off tonight, and on the road you have to make shots. They were making them, especially early in the game, and that's the biggest difference. They're a good team at home, and we made too many mistakes to capitalize."

The Thunderbirds jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but the Hornets quickly responded with an 8-0 run of their own to take the advantage.

With the score tied up at 10-10, the Hornets went on a 11-0 run to swing all the momentum their way. They held on to a double-digit lead for the majority of the remainder of the half, and the home team took a 37-25 advantage into the break.

Sacramento State shot 50 percent in the opening half, while the T-Birds shot just 33 percent from the field.

The second half was much more competitive that the first, as Sacramento State's shooting cooled off, but the T-Birds were never able to cut their lead down to less than seven points, giving the Hornets the victory.

Andre Adams finished the game with a team-high 15 points, hitting 5-of-8 shots from the field. Of his 15 total points, 12 came in the second half.

"He's just getting better and better while he gets his timing right, and we've got to be able to capitalize on that," Simon said.

Both Cameron Oluyitan and Dwayne Morgan finished with 11 points.

For the Hornets, Izayah Mauriohooho-Le'afa finished the night with 21 points, hitting 5-of-9 shots from behind the three-point line.

The T-Birds will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, as they travel to Flagstaff, Arizona, for a matchup with the Lumberjacks of NAU.
