LOGAN, Utah -- The Thunderbird gymnastics team traveled to Logan, Utah to face off against Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference foe Utah State on Friday night, where they fell to the Aggies by a slim margin, 196.525-196.450.
The score for USU was a season-high for Utah State, while SUU's 196.525 was their third-highest of the year and highest road score thus far.
The Flippin' Birds started off the night on bars, where they were led by a 9.875 from Shylen Murakami, and a 9.850 by Stephanie Tervort.
Murakami was co-event champion on bars in Logan.
As a team, Southern Utah finished their first rotation with a 49.125.
As the Thunderbirds moved to vault, they were led by a pair of 9.850's from Caitlin Kho and Morgan Alfaro. They also had a 9.825 from Madison McBride, and another pair of 9.800's from Karley McClain and Tervort.
Alfaro and Kho ended up as event champions on the night for the T-Birds.
The Flippin' Birds scored the same team score on vault that they did on bars, hitting a 49.125.
When the Thunderbirds moved to floor, the scores continued to build. Madison McBride led the charge with a 9.900, while both Molly Jozwiakowski and Hannah Nipp pitched in a 9.875.
The T-Birds scored a 49.250 as a team in their third rotation.
As the T-Birds moved to beam for their third and final rotation, they were led by a 9.900 from Hannah Nipp with a 9.900.
With a boost from Murakami's 9.850 and Autumn Jorgensen's 9.825, the Thunderbirds scored a 48.950 on floor to push them to their 196.450.
Next Up
The Thunderbirds will return home next Friday to host the No. 18 Iowa State Cyclones. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. MT inside the America First Event Center.
