Thunderbirds Fall in Michigan 50-87

Box Score

Southern Utah University fell to the Michigan Wolverines 50-87 on Saturday night. It was the Thunderbirds' first loss since November 18 against California. Saturday's loss snaps a streak of six straight wins for Todd Simon's team as they now stand at 7-4 on the season.

Both teams failed to score on their first two possessions of the night until Hunter Dickinson scored his first two of 22 on the night for the Wolverines. SUU kept the game within three points until Michigan went on a 14-0 run in 4:35 to break open the game.

A Maizen Fausett two-point jumper broke the run off the assist from Harrison Butler. After a jumper from John Knight III, both teams would go into a three minute spell of missed shots until Terrance Williams II nailed a three point shot for the Wolverines. Michigan ended the first half in control of SUU's offense with an 18-4 run before entering halftime with a 29 point lead.

Tevian Jones scored the first bucket of the half with a jumper for his fourth point of the game. A dunk from Dickinson shifted the momentum back in Michigan's favor.

SUU's three pointers failed to find the basket for most of the night with only four shots made beyond the arch amid 23 tries.

Dre Marin was the only Thunderbird to score double digit points, including two of the team's three point shots, finishing with 12 points in the contest. He recorded a game high 4-11 field goal mark and added on five rebounds to lead SUU.

The Thunderbirds return to Cedar City for a clash with Dixie State on Wednesday December 22 inside the America First Event Center. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. with streaming available on ESPN+.
