CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah women's basketball team will play a home-and-home series with Northern Arizona this week, playing in Flagstaff on Thursday February 25 and hosting the Lumberjacks on Saturday February 27.
Last Time Out
The Thunderbirds split their two-game series with Sacramento State last weekend, winning the first game on Thursday, but dropping the second game on Saturday.
Liz Graves was the leading scorer for the Thunderbirds in the win with 17 points on 50 percent (7-for-14) shooting. Darri Frandsen had 15 points and eight rebounds and Cherita Daugherty had 13 points and nine rebounds. Daugherty also had six assists on the night.
Graves was also the leading scorer in the loss with 18 points. She also pulled down 13 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Frandsen also had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds and had seven blocks in the contest, tied for the highest in a single game in Southern Utah history. The last Thunderbird to have seven blocks in a game was Myndee Larsen in 1998.
Big Sky Update
With two weeks left in the regular season, the Thunderbirds sit in fifth place in the Big Sky standings with a 4-3 record. If the Big Sky Conference Championship Tournament started today, Southern Utah would be the fifth seed and earn the final bye in the first round of the tournament.
Idaho State, Idaho, Montana State, and Montana round out the top four.
Liz Graves continues to lead the Big Sky in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game. She is also second in field goal percentage (.506) and third in rebounding (8.5 per game).
Scouting Report: Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (11-11, 9-9 BSC)
The Lumberjacks currently hold the seventh spot in the Big Sky standings with a 9-9 record. They are coming off of back-to-back wins over Weber State last weekend at home.
Senior Jacqulynn Nakai leads the team and is fourth in the Big Sky in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game.
The Thunderbirds and the Lumberjacks have split their two-game series each of the last three seasons with the T-Birds winning the last matchup 82-64 in Cedar City.
