BOISE, Idaho - The No. 16 Southern Utah gymnastics team competed in a dual meet Saturday night against No. 20 Boise State where they posted a 195.825 while the Broncos put up their second-highest score of the season with a 196.775.
Morgan Alfaro hit a season-high 9.900 on vault and took home the vault event title. Rachel Smith earned a share of the floor event title with a career-high 9.925 on the event. Karley McClain scored a 39.150 in the all-around and was named the all-around event champion.
Southern Utah started things on bars where they scored a 48.925 as a team. Nikki Thomas and Aubri Schwartze both scored a 9.825 to lead the way for the T-Birds. McClain scored a 9.775 and Mayson Bentley and Caitlin Kho both scored a 9.750 to round out the scoring.
On vault, the Thunderbirds scored a 48.950 as a team. Alfaro led the way with her 9.900 followed by a 9.825 from Smith. McClain and Kho both scored a 9.775 and Stephanie Tervort rounded out the scoring with a 9.675.
The Flippin' Birds hit their best team score of the night on floor where they scored a 49.350. Smith's 9.925 was the top score of the night followed by a 9.900 from Schwartze. Kayla Horton scored a career-high 9.875, Molly Jozwiakowski scored a 9.850, and McClain scored a 9.800.
On beam, the Thunderbirds scored a 48.600. Shylen Murakami had the high score with a 9.875 followed by three 9.800s from Smith, McClain, and Emma Wissman. Ruby Hernandez rounded out the scoring with a 9.325.
McClain scored 9.775 on vault, 9.775 on bars, 9.800 on beam, and 9.800 on floor for her combined all-around score of 39.150.
The Flippin' Birds will be in Denver, Colorado next Sunday for a tri-meet with No. 10 Denver and No. 22 Utah State.
