CEDAR CITY, Utah -- After laying dormant since January 23, the Thunderbird men's basketball team will return to the court this Saturday as they are set to take on the Benedictine University at Mesa Redhawks at 12 p.m. MT inside the America First Event Center.
The T-Birds return to action with an 11-3 overall record, and a 6-2 mark in the Big Sky Conference to put them in second place in terms of league standings.
Last Time Out
When the Thunderbirds were last in action, they knocked off in-state rival Weber State 77-72 inside the America First Event Center.
Maizen Fausett led the charge offensively for Southern Utah, scoring a career-high 24 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the free throw line.
Harrison Butler also had a standout game for the Thunderbirds, shooting 7-of-7 from the free throw line and finishing the game with a season-high 18 points.
John Knight III had a well-rounded game for SUU, finishing with eight points, eight assists and six rebounds.
In The Rankings
The Thunderbirds checked into the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 in the No. 17 spot this week, due in large part of their 11-3 overall record.
In terms of NCAA NET Ranking, the Thunderbirds sit 183rd this week, a single spot behind the UNLV Rebels. Weber State holds the best NET Ranking in the Big Sky Conference, sitting 108th heading into this weekend's action.
Opponent Preview: Benedictine University at Mesa (2-6)
The Redhawks of Benedictine University at Mesa will travel to Cedar City with plenty of experience playing Division I teams under their belt this season, as they have played five over the course of the year.
In their last contest on January 23 they knocked off SAGU-American Indian College 98-87 behind 24 points from Angel Villa.
Their last outing against a DI foe was in Las Vegas against UNLV, a contest the Runnin' Rebels won 99-45.
