TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 15 Southern Utah gymnastics team took first place in a tri-meet with Arizona and Air Force, posting a 196.150, their third-highest road score of the season.
The Wildcats scored a 196.000 for second place and the Falcons scored a 193.175 for third place.
Morgan Alfaro won the vault event title with a 9.900 on the event, Aubri Schwartze scored a 9.900 on beam for a share of the beam event title, and Karley McClain scored a 9.900 on floor to earn the floor event title.
The Thunderbirds opened the meet on bars where they scored a 48.650 as a team. Hannah Nipp had the high score for the T-Birds with a 9.825 followed by Nikki Thomas with a 9.800. Caitlin Kho and Schwartze both scored a 9.700 and Molly Jozwiakowski rounded out the scoring with a 9.625.
On beam the Thunderbirds had their best performance of the day, scoring a 49.250. Schwartze's 9.900 led the way followed by a 9.875 from McClain and a 9.850 from Emma Wissman. Rachel Smith scored a 9.825 and Hannah Nipp rounded out the scoring with a 9.800.
Southern Utah then moved to the floor exercise where they scored a 49.050. McClain had the high score with her 9.900. Jozwiakowski hit a 9.850 and both Schwartze and Kayla Horton were both awarded a 9.775. Smith rounded out the scoring with a 9.750.
The Thunderbirds closed out the meet on vault with a 49.200, their second-highest score of the season. Alfaro hit the high score with a 9.900 followed by a 9.850 from both Jozwiakowski and Caitlin Kho. Smith scored a 9.825 and Stephanie Tervort scored a 9.775.
The Flippin' Birds will now turn their attention to the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Championship next weekend in Logan, Utah.
