CEDAR CITY, Utah. -  The Southern Utah softball team had a tough time getting going against BYU in a Tuesday tilt at Kathryn Berg Field in Cedar City, Utah, taking a 9-0  loss heading into the final weekend of regular-season play. 

BYU jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead with four runs in the top of the first frame.  BYU tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth before closing out scoring with two more runs in the top of the fifth. 

The T-Birds had their chances.  In the bottom of the second stanza, SUU managed to load the bases off a BYU miscue and two walks, but were unable to capitalize.  

Dayna Hokanson had the lone hit of the ballgame for SUU with a double down the leftfield line in the bottom of the third.

Tyler Denhart opened the game in the circle and suffered the loss to move to 8-12 on the season. 

Next up, Sacramento State heads to Cedar City for a three-game Big Sky series on May 7-8.  

The series opens with a doubleheader on Friday, May 7 starting at 1 p.m. MST.  A single contest closes the regular season on Saturday, May 8 at 12 noon MST.
