CEDAR CITY, Utah - In its initial season as a member of the Western Athletic Conference, Southern Utah football has placed 12 athletes on Phil Steele's All-WAC teams.
Phil Steele compiles a list of the top talent in each conference at the end of every football season and the Thunderbirds were well-represented in the 2022 edition of the All-WAC teams.
First Team
Redshirt Junior quarterback Justin Miller, redshirt Junior Rodrick Ward, and Senior Punter Jake Gerardi all earned First-Team honors. Gerardi was also named the Special Teams Player of the Year, for the impact he had on the opposition's field position.
Second Team
Three defensive starters for Southern Utah made the second team list including Graduate Student defensive end Zach Strand, Senior defensive end Francis Bemiy, and Freshman linebacker Kohner Cullimore.
Sophomore offensive lineman Lyle Santos earned a spot on the second team. Junior Wide receiver Isaiah Wooden garnered a Second-Team nod for his work on special teams this season. Wooden would also be named to the Third-Team for his ability as a receiver and as an all around athlete.
Third team
Junior wide receiver Ethan Bolingbroke Made his mark as a punt returner for the Thunderbirds and received Third-Team Honors for his contributions. Redshirt Junior Aubrey Nellems and Sophomore linebacker Josh Dunn were also named to the Third-Team along with Sophomore defensive tackle Payton Payne.
