CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah dropped the third and final game of a three game series against the Northern Colorado Bears by the score 4-3.
The Bears opened the scoring in the first inning with a two RBI single from Alexsi Barashkoff, driving in Riley Plogger and Jaycie Gandert. A double from Peyton Gale and sacrifice fly from Alyssa Wenzel would stretch Northern Colorado's lead to 4 in the third inning.
The Thunderbirds would strike back in their half of the third inning with a two run double from Reilly Williams to right-center field, scoring Makall Whetten and Capri Franzen.Â
Down to their final out of the game, SUU's Jayne Sepulveda singled through the right side to give the Thunderbirds hope, before Whetten doubled to left center to bring the game within one run. Franzen would fly out to right, ending the comeback and the game.Â
Keimon Winston took the loss in the game after only going one inning, surrendering two earned runs with three walks. Payton Goodrich relieved Winston and produced four innings of six hit, two run softball. Grace Owen finished the ballgame for SUU throwing a perfect two innings.Â
Northern Colorado's Isabelle DiNapoli tossed a complete game racking up 13 strikeouts over eight hits and three earned runs.
Sepulveda went 2-3 in the ball game with three singles and one run. Whetten totaled two hits with a walk in addition to her seventh inning double.
SUU is back in action on Friday with a series against the Montana Grizz. The series starts with a double header on Friday with the third game of the series on Saturday at noon. All three games will take place at the Kathryn Berg Field in Cedar City.
