STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – In its final road meet of the 2022 regular season, the Southern Utah University gymnastics team posted a 194.425 in a quad meet hosted by Penn State.
No. 13 Denver finished first overall with a score of 197.075. Penn State's 195.225 placed the Nittany Lions in second, and Cornell finished behind the Thunderbirds with an even 190.000 for the night.
VAULT (49.025)
The vault rotation was SUU's best of the night by far. Morgan Alfaro and Caitlin Kho led the team with identical 9.875s, and Rachel Smith contributed a strong 9.825.
BARS (48.350)
A pair of falls haunted the T-Birds on bars, but Shylen Murakami and Aubri Schwartze helped salvage the rotation by each posting a score of 9.875.
BEAM (48.825)
The 9.875 mark continued to be the highest score SUU could reach throughout the meet, and Hannah Nipp was the high finisher for the T-Birds on beam with that exact score. Schwartze was the other Thunderbird to go above 9.800 in the event with a score of 9.825.
FLOOR (48.225)
Similar to bars, Southern Utah was plagued by a pair of falls during its floor routines. Those who posted top scores for the Thunderbirds turned in solid performances, though, as Schwartze and Karley McClain each hit 9.875.
SUU will close the regular season on Friday, March 11, when it hosts William & Mary. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. MT, and the Thunderbirds will honor their seniors as part of the proceedings. A live broadcast will be available on ESPN+.
