Men's Basketball Begins Conference Play Against Cal Baptist And Seattle U

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- SUU Men's Basketball will have two conference contests before finishing out the rest of their preseason. First, on Wednesday, Nov 29 at 6:30 p.m. the Thunderbirds will take on the Lancers of Cal Baptist in the America First Event Center. Then they will travel to Seattle to take on the Redhawks of Seattle U on Saturday, Dec 2 at 4:00 p.m.

Both games will be available to stream on ESPN+.

The Lancers
CBU is currently 5-1 on the season and have won three games in a row. They are led by junior guard Dominique Daniels Jr. who is averaging 17.5 points per game and is shooting a scorching 42% from three. The Lancers have four players averaging double-digits, GCU transfer Yvan Ouedraogo 11.8, BlondeauĀ TchoukuiegnoĀ 11.2, and Brantly Stevenson 10.5.Ā Ā 

As a team the Lancers are averaging just under 70 points per game and are only giving up 61 points per game. CBU averages 10 more rebounds a game than their opponents and +2.0 in turnover margin.Ā 

The Redhawks
Seattle U is 4-2 on the season with impressive wins against Montana State and UC San Diego. They will play atĀ Utah Valley before traveling back to Seattle for the game against the Thunderbirds.Ā 

The Redhawks are led by redshirt senior Cameron Tyson who is averaging just under 16 points per game in their six contests. John Christofillis has only played in one game for SU but had 18 points and was 3-4 from three. Junior forward Kobe WilliamsonĀ leads the team in 3P% at 43% and is averaging 13.2 points per game and has an outstanding 14 blocks in six games. Alex Schumacher has done an impressive job at point guard for SU, with 31 assists on the year and just 16 turnovers.Ā 

THE THUNDERBIRDS
Zion Young is pacing the way for SUU scoring just under 17 points per game on nearly 38% from deep. He is also the team-leading rebounder, pulling down six boards a game. Dominique Ford has been the do-it-allĀ man for SUU playing the most minutes on the team and averaging 14.2 points per game, 4.4 rebounds per game and lead the team with 18 assists and just four turnovers.Ā 

The Thunderbirds are averaging 78 points per game as a team and are holding teams to 74 ppg.Ā 

"This week will be a tough test for us, we are playing two of the top teams in our conference and will need to be better defensively if we want to get the results we are looking for." Said head coach Rob Jeter.Ā 

SUU's opponents shoot nearly 48% from the floor and 30% from three.Ā 

"We are getting closer to where we want to be as a team. We continue to buy in and get better each time we step on the floor. Excited to be back home and play in front of our great home crowd." Said Jeter.Ā
