CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah Softball team dropped a doubleheader on the road Friday afternoon falling 5-0 in the first game and 15-2 in the second game. The Thunderbird offense struggled, not being able to connect on consecutive hits to score needed runs.
Game one of the doubleheader started with Seattle threatening to have a big first inning. The Redhawks loaded up the bases but were only able to come away with one run as the Thunderbirds rolled a quick double play and grabbed another ground ball to get out of the jam.
Though both teams had hits, the next two innings went quickly and quietly. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Redhawks were able to capitalize on back-to-back hits, a wild pitch, and a home run to score four runs making the score 5-0.
That would end up being the final as neither team was able to plate any more runs in the last three innings.
In the second game of the day, the Redhawks swung the bat well racking up 16 hits in the win.
Four Thunderbirds each collected two hits on the day. Alayah Toscano, Emily Gonzalez, and Allie Laub picked up hits in both games while Madison Sanders grabbed both of her hits in game one. Sophomore second baseman Jayne Sepulveda launched a home run in the top of the 5th inning to score the only runs of the game for SUU.
