CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- Southern Utah Men's Basketball is 0-4 in conference play but has a great opportunity on Saturday night, January 13 to get back into the win column versus a pesky Stephen F Austin team at 6:30 p.m. in the America First Event Center. The game will be available to watch live on ESPN+ or follow along with live stats.
For the remainder of the men's basketball season, each Saturday home game, including against in-state rival Utah Valley on Feb 17, will be 'kids get in free Saturday'! Any kids K-12, come pick up a ticket at the ticket office and help cheer on the Thunderbirds!
The Lumberjacks are coming off a loss last night at Utah Tech, which saw them fall to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in WAC play. SFA ranks in the top five in nearly all offensive and defensive metrics in the conference. They are second in scoring at 78.9 points per game and second in FG% shooting 45% from the floor. They are first in the conference in opponents FG%, allowing teams to shoot just 40%.
They're second overall in rebounding and first in the conference in offensive rebounding with 219 on the year. They also lead the conference in total steals, at 10.3 per game.
Sadaidriene Hall leads the team in scoring at 10.3 points per game, shooting 52% from the field, he is the only Lumberjack scoring in double-digits. Latrell Jossell is next on the team at 9.1 points per game. Four different Lumberjacks are averaging eight points per game, Frank Staine, AJ Cajuste, Matt Hayman and Nana, Antwi-Boasiako.
Cajuste leads the team with 48 assists on the year to go along with 15 steals.
"SFA is another good opportunity to get in the win column. They are a tough team to play, especially offensively with the way they pressure the ball and play passing lanes, they make everything hard offensively," said Head Coach Rob Jeter. "We are gonna have to be efficient with how we score the ball, and then defensively, it is the same story, we have to play a full 40 minutes of disciplined basketball," said, Jeter.
