CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University women's basketball team is pleased to announce that forward Ava Uhrich has been named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Newcomer of the Week.
"Ava is so deserving of this award," said SUU head coach Tracy Mason. "She has put up really impressive numbers in conference and just continues to get better. She is so much fun to coach, an absolute competitor and someone that just wants the ball in her hands."
Uhrich led the Thunderbirds with a pair of double-doubles last week. Uhrich tallied 16 points and 12 rebounds in an effort against Tarleton State. Then, the freshman propelled Southern Utah to victory against Abilene Christian with a career-high 25 points on 9-14 shooting to go along with 12 rebounds. This marks Uhrich's sixth double-double of the season and her fifth in WAC play.
