WAC Play Continues Against Grand Canyon And Utah Valley

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Men's Basketball team is set to continue WAC play, coming off of back-to-back wins to close out non-conference play. This week will see the preseason WAC favorite, Grand Canyon, travel to Cedar City on Jan 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the America First Event Center. Followed by the Thunderbirds traveling to Orem, Utah to take on the Wolverines of Utah Valley on Jan 6 at 2 p.m.

Grand Canyon
The Lopes are the best team in the conference and are currently on a nine-game win streak. They sit in first place in the WAC points resume seeding system with 4.29, the next closest is Tarleton St. with .43 total points. 

GCU has wins against 25th-ranked San Diego State and at the University of Liberty. As a team, they average 82 points per game while only giving up 68. They shoot nearly 50% from the field and 34% from three. 

The Lopes are led by transfer guard Tyon-Grant Foster, who is averaging 20 points per game on 46% from the field and 31% from three, he also leads the team in total blocks with 16.

Ray Harrison, the preseason WAC Player Of The Year, averages just under 15 points per game and leads the team with 47 assists on the year. 

Gabe McGlothan averages just under 13 points per game on 53/40/74 percent shooting splits. He also leads the team in rebounding at eight per game. 

Utah Valley
The Wolverines are currently on a four-game losing streak and will play Cal Baptist at home before they face the Thunderbirds. UVU has had the hardest schedule in the conference and is currently sitting at 6-7 for the year. 

UVU averages 67 points per game and has a negative point differential of -1.8 for the season. Teams are shooting 45% from the field against the Wolverines.

UVU has three players averaging double-digits, led by Caleb Stone-Carrawell at just under 12 points per game on 40% from the field and 32% from three. Former Thunderbird, Drake Allen, is averaging just under 11 points per game on 43% from the field and just 15% from three. Tanner Toolson is just under 11 points per game. Trevin Dorius is averaging just under 10 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 6.8 per game and total blocks with 20.
