Cold Second Half Leads To Loss In Orem

OREM, UTAH -- After leading by three at halftime, Thunderbirds scored just 24 points in the second half and fell to Utah Valley on the road, 62-80.

SUU falls to 5-10 on the season and 0-4 in conference play.

Game Recap
SUU went on an 8-0 run to close the second half and would lead 38-35 at the break. But an abysmal second half shooting the ball saw the Thunderbirds go 5-23 from the field and 1-10 from three for just 24 points. SUU was outscored in the second half 45-24.

SUU tied the game at 52-52 with 13 minutes left but were outscored 28-10 in the final 13 minutes of the game.

Statistical Recap
SUU was led by Zion Young who had 17 points on the night, on 6-14 from the floor and 3-5 from three. Parsa Fallah added 14 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Dominique Ford poured in 12 of his own. Braden Housley led the team in assists with four to go along with eight points. Jamari Sibley had nine points and six rebounds, and Brock Felder had arguably the best game of his young career with seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two points.

The Thunderbirds shot 36% from the floor and 21% from three.

Meanwhile, the Wolverines shot nearly 56% from the floor and were led by Caleb Stone-Carrawell with 17 points, five rebounds and three assists.

"The first half was really solid, maybe some of the best team defense we have played all year. But in the second half we just weren't able to do the things that we practice, and the things we need to do to win," said Head Coach Rob Jeter

"We have to be able to play a full 40-minutes of disciplined basketball otherwise it is going to be a long season for us," continued, Jeter.

Up Next
The Thunderbirds will take a week off before returning to action at home, against Stephen F Austin on Sat, January 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the America First Event Center.
