CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The Thunderbirds Men's Basketball team is eager to start the 2024-25 season, and the Mustangs of Western New Mexico are coming to town for game number one.
Head Coach Rob Jeter said
"It's been a long off-season, we've added a lot of quality pieces to the team and we are ready to get the season started. Winning game one is important, especially when it's at home. Let's pack the AFEC for the season-opener."

Matchup History
The last and only time these two programs met was in 1993 when the Thunderbirds won 81-64.
Last Time Out
Both teams played in exhibition games before game one of the regular season. The Thunderbirds hosted the Griffins of Westminster, and the Mustangs played an exhibition against the New Mexico State Aggies.
The Thunderbirds
This SUU squad features many new faces. One of the names to watch out for will be junior guard Tavi Jackson. A transfer from Colorado State, Jackson played in the NCAA Tournament a season ago. He led the Thunderbirds in scoring during the exhibition game and is a game-changing player.
Dominique Ford is not a new face, but will certainly still be making an impact for SUU. He led the team in scoring a season ago and is poised for an excellent senior year.
The high-flying Brock Felder is also back for another year of Thunderbirds basketball and has only improved after playing in 28 games for SUU as a freshman.
Scout The Mustangs
WNMU struggled in 2023-24, winning just four games on the year and only two Lone Star Conference games. However, first-year Head Coach Mark Bunker will be looking to change the trajectory of the Mustangs' 24-25 season.
Bunker joined WNMU from Scottsdale Community College, where he had been the head coach for the previous nine seasons. For the first time in school history, Bunker took the Artichokes to back-to-back Region I Division II Championships in 2022 and 2023.
Transfer guard Carson Kelly came over with his head coach from Scottsdale CC and could prove to be a difference-maker for the Mustangs. He led them in their exhibition at NMSU, scoring 15 points in 31 minutes of action.
