Thunderbirds Head To Historic Pauley Pavilion To Take On UCLA

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Men's Basketball team will put their 6-1 record up against Big 10 opponent UCLA. On Tuesday, November 26, the T-Birds will be in the Pauley Pavilion to take on the 5-1 Bruins of UCLA. They will return home from a 10-day road trip and play host to Cal-State Bakersfield on Saturday, November 30, at 6:30 p.m. in the America First Event Center.

Head Coach Rob Jeter said

"It's exciting to get to play at UCLA. Being in that building is always a unique experience with a  lot of history there. We can compete in this game, if we play disciplined, with good energy we can have a positive outcome. It will be nice to return home after a long road trip and get another chance to defend our home floor."

Scout The Bruins

UCLA is currently 5-1, with their lone loss on the season coming at New Mexico, 72-64. In ESPN's most recent top-25 poll, the Bruins received six votes in the AP and three in the coaches poll.

As a team, they are holding their opponents under 55 points per game, which ranks good enough for sixth in the nation in points allowed. They're forcing over 18 turnovers per game and averaging almost 10 steals per contest.

Tyler Bilodeau leads the team in scoring at 15.5 per contest on 50% from the field and 40% from three. Eric Dailey Jr (11.8) and Sebastian Mack (10.2) are the only other Bruins averaging double-digit scoring.

Scout The Roadrunners

CSUB is 4-3 on the year, with losses coming against FGCU, Cal-Berkley, and FIU, which SUU beat earlier in the year. They're averaging under 80 points per game on 45% from the field and 38% from three.

Jemel Jones leads CSUB in scoring, averaging 16 points per game on 50% from the field and 79% from the free-throw line. Marvin McGhee III has made 14 three-pointers on the year, which leads the team, but is also shooting 28% from three. However, Marvin McGhee IV has made 12 threes on the year and is shooting a blistering 58% from three.

SUU will be looking to avenge a one-point loss a season ago at CSUB in the season opener.

The Thunderbirds

SUU is now averaging 84 points per game while allowing teams to score just 68. They're shooting 48% from the floor and are up to 37% from three.

The Thunderbirds' 42 rebounds per game have been huge, allowing the team to close out defensive possessions and create more possessions by corralling offensive boards.

Jamir Simpson was phenomenal last week and earned himself both the Newcomer of the Week and the Player of the Week honors in the Western Athletic Conference. Against San Diego, he had 20 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 34 minutes of action. Then, the next day, he had 21 points on 9-16 from the field with four rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal against the University of Idaho.

He is now averaging 18.4 points per game on 47, 38, and 78% shooting splits.

Jamari Sibley has been a crucial piece of the success of the Thunderbirds this season. Averaging eight points and seven rebounds per game and is shooting 47% from three.

Dominique Ford is doing what he does. He is now averaging 14 points per game and has 18 made threes on the year at a 42% clip. He is also 15 of 16 from the free-throw line.
