Thunderbirds Roll Past Roadrunners; Improve To 7-2

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The Thunderbirds bounced back in a big way after a tough loss at UCLA. They returned home and won 74-64 against the Roadrunners of Cal-State Bakersfield. The win avenged a one-point loss at CSUB a season ago.

Head Coach Rob Jeter said

Top T-Birds

  • Jamir Simpson (21) and Dominique Ford (20) both scored 20+ points on the night. Simpson was a perfect 10-10 from the free-throw line.
  • Jeffrey JT Langston Jr secured a season-high nine rebounds to lead the team.
  • Tavi Jackson did it all for the Thunderbirds. Scoring 14 points on 5-7 from the field, grabbed four rebounds, and dished two assists.

Game Recap

The Thunderbirds had a decent lead for most of the first half, but the Roadrunners closed on an 8-0 run to cut the halftime lead to just four for SUU. The T-Birds held CSUB to just 23 first-half points and held them to 9-27 from the field.

For the game, the Roadrunners were only 1-10 from three.

The second half was back and forth, with CSUB taking a 36-34 lead at the 14:36 mark. But not long after that, senior Dominique Ford made his biggest mark on back-to-back possessions, coming up with a steal and a layup with a foul on the other end. After a defensive stop, Tavi Jackson came down the floor and got a hoop with some harm as well, and that made it a 9-0 run for the Thunderbirds, and SUU didn't give up the lead for the rest of the game.

SUU only shot two free throws in the first half and then 26 in the second half. The team was an impressive 24-28 from the free throw line, which helped secure the 10-point win down the stretch.
